WELL

It depends on what kind of information you are talking about

TAX and internal financial data will be handled internally

Data relating to Customer support or purchases could have some external influences for transparency reasons

such data can be tracked AUTOMATICALLY

Loyalty cards and other info from TILLS, does not need any input from the Parent company

ALL Data can be tracked now via transparency ,, since TESCOs, ASDA, MORRISONS, CO-OP, LIDL, and several others all compare ... so track each other ....... but We the Consumer probably still loose out. ... well do you trust them to always give the best deal, unless someone is watching .. ??

Other answers are right but also the customers enter their own data if the company has a web presence. Every time you place an order the details of that order, your name, address, email etc are all put on a database.

Publicly traded companies (Stock Bond related) data is generally best found by a company in the business of reporting financial information. Standard & Poors is considered responsible. There are others.Yahoo and MSN get their data using these sources and are as reliable.

For people data it is managed by a HR department who make sure it is kept up to date

As for products it is often put in via the scanning of items barcodes and addibg an associated cost. This can then be changed via manual update of the system or bulk update I.e raise by 1%

Sales data is automatically added by the tills and profit data is automatically generated as sales - purchases.

Their staff members who have been hired just to input daily data onto their systems. A lot of it is now automated so when you check out it automatically stores your name and what you bought.
