My husband can't get a computer internship this year. Will that affect his chances of a job after graduation

My husband is going on his senior year at the University of Delaware as a computer science major. He has a 3.98 GPA and has been named the outstanding student of the year the past 2 years in that department. He has applied to about 5 internship opportunities and has been turned down for all of them. He knows the people who were hired by these companies and most of them are geek in basement types with no lives and few social skills. All these people do is program!

How will this effect his chances of getting a job once he graduates next year? We're really concerned because its VERY hard to support a family on a mechanic's salary (what he did before going to school) while trying to pay back 25K in student loan debt.

Do these companies have an unwritten requirement that says "no humans allowed" or something? A guy who works hard in school, yet has a life outside computers can't seem to get a break.

Internships are most useful at companies you want to work for after graduation. If you take an internship at Microsoft and they like you, that makes it easier to get a job there later. It sounds like your husband wasn't impressed with the places he interviewed, so not having an internship at those companies might not be such a big loss.



Your husband has the advantage that he has had a job before, which puts him ahead of other applicants with no work experience. His high grades and recommendations make for a solid resume, especially if he can get some glowing recommendations from faculty.

ok, no offense meant right here yet for some reason i think of that "putter" refers to a minimum of something else. I even have performed golf for years and not as quickly as have I knocked a ball into the trees making use of my putter. in case you mean what i think of you mean, look for suggestion from a scientific expert in the present day.
