So i want to change my job at the minute I am a labourer for a recycling company earning 6.32 p/h working on a picking station conveyor belt which is not mentally challenging so it becomes very mind numbing I'm 19 and have gcse at c's and b's I think I have twelve if needed I can list later :) and an nvq level 2 in vehicle fitting done over a 6 month apprenticeship just over 2 years ago but nothing really came of it I'm not sure what I'd like to do but to do another apprenticeship would mean working a secon part time jobvto afford my insurance on my car and a social life I don't want to go to university as in my opinion I think it's a waste of time and I don't want the debt at the end of it and I could possibly go to college but I can't decide on what to do or how to go about it any advice is greatly Appreciated doesn't have to be for a specific job or career path just something that could potentially help me figure out a possible career path or a way of getting another job without dropping to much pay

The usual answer is go to University if you want a good job. Well half the people at Uni are taking easy option degree's that are not worth a light to the average employer. Last week i was reading a science magazine and purely out of interest was looking at the job vacancies for Scientists of various types. What astounded me was the fact that my Son in Law who is a self employed Plasterer with no GCSE's earns more than quite senior Scientists and University Lecturers. You don't need 3 years of your life and a big debt to be a Plasterer, Builder, Roofer, Plumber, Electrician etc !!! I had a Tree Surgeon in recently to cut down a large dying tree in my back garden. He was here for just 3 hours, £350 please squire [which i was happy, well more or less] to pay to rid rid of the thing.

Go to university if it's an option, you say you "don't want to" because of debt? Well, if you can never afford to pay the student loans back then you won't. I think a while back someone I knew got a £20,000 a year job after university, I think about £20 came out of her wages per month towards thousands of pounds of student debt and the amount payable each month would only increase if her salary did. You wan't an option without dropping too much pay? You can't get much lower than you're getting now, the full adult rate of NMW is only 1p less than your current hourly rate.

First you have to decide what you want to do. Then you have to set out to do it.

You have no qualifications to speak of and no desire to gain any, that's going to hold you back.

Do they use forklifts where you work? Is the any chance they'd offer you a course in driving one? That will build your earning potential.
