Learning SQL?

I am thinking of learning SQL. I have some knowledge of programming languages such as BASIC and COBOL, which I did many years ago at school. Do you suggest I learn SQL by joining a course at college, or do it via distance learning, or by myself a book and teach myself?

What job prospects do I have after learning SQL? I suppose I would have a problem getting my first job. i.e. no job no experience. How can I get practical work experience using SQL, without getting a job first? (which is the main question that employers ask at interviews)

No, but it depends upon the institute or book ur reffering. of course if u know sql then pl-sql wouls be easy to learn. it is just like c, c++ and java. u need not 2 learn all but if u know c then learning c++ n java would be easier.

You should join a course for SQL DBA. This will open a big door of opportunity. The real dba's are always in demand.
